The Ripple Effect of Transforming Habits

So you want to transform your life…someday. But,transformation takes place in the present moment, not out in a vague idea of the future.

Small changes over time are the best way to transform your life.  Most people are attracted to fast and easy.  But real change, change that lasts has to become ingrained and automatic.  This happens by creating success habits and the best way to create a new habit and make it automatic is through hypnosis.

I see this happen every day in my office when I help a smoker create a better habit, or when an out of shape 60 year old commits to exercise for the first time in their lives or when a salesperson starts showing up early for meetings and suddenly these small changes, change everything.  They have created something exciting, a new habit.  Habits of this kind create a ripple effect and will transform your life.  

In the book “The Power of Habit” the author talks about habits that can change your life, so called keystone habits.  You might not want to lose weight or even think that you need to improve your nutrition but chances are that you do. Or perhaps you would like to develop an exercise habit or let go of a negative habit like smoking, nail-biting or procrastination.  Healthy habits do not only pertain to the physical but also the unhealthy mental habits that the average person spends 80% of their day doing.

Hypnosis works with your subconscious mind to not only alleviate unhealthy habits but to also install new healthy ones. Your subconscious mind likes to create automatic behaviors. This is evident in how quickly our mind creates habitual behaviors. As a child we start this process by dressing in the same order every day and the subconscious then makes that an automatic behavior.  Most people no longer think about which shoe to put on first they do it automatically.  This is freeing our mind to do other things.  However when a negative behavior becomes automatic the subconscious mind does not know the difference and simply repeats the behavior over and over again.

The best way to change a habit is to first become consciously aware of it. This is why hypnosis is so powerful in alleviating habitual behavior.  By using the subconscious to make your conscious mind aware of picking up a cigarette or eating the whole bag of chips the “noticing” becomes automatic and this allows you to use free will to change. You can also use hypnosis to associate negative feelings or images to a habit like cigarette smoking and by doing so create the ability to stop smoking much more easily.

Creating healthy habits is easier then getting rid of negative ones.  You will associate pleasant feelings and images to the new positive behavior and with time and repetition, this new behavior will become subconscious/automatic and voila you will have a new healthy habit.

Guilt Free for the Holidays

Do you leave Thanksgiving gatherings feeling bad about the way the day went?  Are you mentally kicking yourself as you travel home?  If so you might be suffering from an unhealthy case of holiday guilt.

Following are some ways to get rid of the guilt and enjoy the holidays more. 

1.Get into your subconscious mind. Figure out what is the cause of your guilt.  When it becomes conscious you can much more easily deal with it.
2. Don’t buy into it. In other words you don’t have to feel guilty, it is a choice. You can and do choose the thoughts you have on a daily basis.  Don’t let someone make you feel bad.
3.Increase self confidence. By feeling more confident you can avoid taking on unnecessary guilt. Remember all the things you do for others and let go of what you can’t control.
4. Practice forgiveness. If you can forgive others, you can also forgive yourself
5. Mentally prepare to be consciously positive. Notice if the conversation is headed to something negative and redirect it to something more positive.  I have found that you can redirect conversation fairly easily if you are prepared with some subjects that everyone can relate to and enjoy.
6. Feel grateful. This is what defines Thanksgiving and the holiday season. By practicing gratitude and being thankful we connect to all of our positive experiences and feel good in the process. I work with many people during the holiday’s who have negative feelings that decrease their enjoyment. By changing the way you think you change your perception and therefore your feelings.  By taking care of yourself you become more able to enjoy the holidays and make a positive impact on the lives of others at the same time.

Improve Sales Performance with Hypnosis and NLP

hypnosis and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) are powerful tools for sales success. Back in 1981, these techniques became relatively mainstream in sales training circles. The reason these techniques have become so popular in sales is due to their positive impact on the minds of the sales professionals. Overthinking and nonstop research gathering are two favorite methods of procrastination which can be overcome.

2. Improving the sales professional’s technique: One of the main skills lacking in many salespeople is effective listening skills. Listening well and asking relevant questions are skills that are necessary for success. Being able to develop rapport with the prospect is another technique the best salespeople do effortlessly. People will buy from people they perceive to be more like them. Using NLP to build rapport by accessing your prospects buying style will build sales.

3. Closing the sale: No matter how well a person sells or how knowledgeable they are in regards to their product or service, it is irrelevant if they can’t close. This is the part of selling where the rubber meets the road. Asking for the sale is not something that is only done once at the end of the sales process. It is done over and over throughout the sales conversations so that it is almost effortless. Generally, if the salesperson won’t ask for the sale they won’t get the sale. The inability to close usually comes from fear of failure or issues with money or simple lack of confidence. Learning the sellers’ values and the ways they are motivated to achieve will be useful to drive them to the highest level of performance. Using hypnosis/NLP you can move past obstacles and align the sellers’ values with their goals to create a focused approach to closing the sale.

hypnosis and hypnotherapy are amazing techniques for self change. There is a glut of self help books and techniques for change, but none of them can beat the power of hypnosis. Perhaps the reason it is not used more is because of the negative myths and misconceptions promoted by Hollywood movies and stage shows.

The reality is that due to a lack of understanding, many people are missing out on a technique that they can control. hypnosis does not induce a lack of control, nor is it best utilized with individuals who are lacking in intellect or strength of mind. Time elapsed much more quickly than expected and suddenly you are going by your exit. When you daydream, which hopefully everyone does, that is a form of self-hypnosis. I have had clients who have already been practicing self-hypnosis; they just weren’t aware of it nor were they able to tap into the power of their mind because they have no knowledge of how the mind works or how to use this remarkable state.

Sales people and athletes have already figured out the power of hypnosis. Not to use on others, but on themselves. Many athletes will talk about using hypnosis to perform better. Dieting doesn’t work for permanent weight loss. Any diet works short term if the dieter sticks to the diet.   However the ability to be that self disciplined is finite. In other words a person’s self discipline and self control weakens over the course of a day. So what can you do to lose weight and then to maintain that weight loss?
